Wordpress Automatic Upgrade

Posted by Dunn on August 5, 2008 – 3:17 pm -

Remember the time when you felt so frustating while upgrading your Wordpress? I felt that before, and I hate it. We had to go through all the hassles yet the errors. I even decided not to upgrade my Wordpress at all, just left it with what it was as long as there’s no problem with my sites. But now, since I was introduced by Rahul from Devils Workshop, upgrading Wordpress couldn’t be more easier. It took me only ten minutes to do the upgrade. Thank’s to Wordpress Automatic Upgrade Plugin.

WordPress 2.5 Image Uploading Error

Posted by Dunn on May 4, 2008 – 9:44 pm -

Upon upgrading to WordPress 2.5, there was one error that I had to deal with. I found error everytime I wanted to upload image to the post, so in the mean time, I had to upload the image via control panel.

I searched to find the solution for this, and I found it in WordPress Forum posted by cjane :

I added this code into my .htaccess

<IfModule mod_security.c>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off
</IfModule>

.. it seems to make my image uploading/insert to post work now.

And yes, mine is also working now. I can upload images from WordPress as usual. Thank’s cjane!

I also want to thank Eddy from Magpies Zone who’s also trying to help me with this issue. Thank’s dude, you rock!

Plugins for Adsense

Posted by Dunn on May 1, 2008 – 3:27 pm -

I just installed AdSense-Deluxe Wordpress Plugin, a plugin that helped me to insert Google AdSense ads inside my blog and only visible in the single page. It is a WordPress plugin offering advance options for managing the automatic insertion of Google Adsense, Yahoo Publisher Network, or any other ads to your posts. You have full control of when and where those ads are displayed.

WordPress AdSense-Deluxe

It’s easy to use and very simple. All you have to do is download and install the plugin in the cPanel. Activate it in the Wordpress panel, then go to Option/Setting -> Adsense-Deluxe. In here you can insert your Adsense code and set how you want the ads to be displayed.

At first in Adsense-Deluxe option/setting page, I found error when I was trying to set the option and insert the Adsense code.

Cannot load AdSense-Deluxe.php

I searched and tried to find the solution for this error and I found it in Ad.Click.ol.o.gy.com :

Take the “Adsense-Deluxe.php” file out of the “adsense-deluxe_wp_plugin_v0.8″ folder and place it directly in the plugin folder. Activate the plugin again, or if it still active, deactivate and reactivate.

WordPress AdSense-Deluxe Fixed

This should fix the problem. It fixed mine. Now I’m able to insert ads inside the post, wherever I want. Just insert the code <!–adsense–> in the place that I want the ads to be displayed with my choices of size and color to blend with the post.

Here’s the list of another plugins for Adsense that I found :

AdSense Injection - Download v2.0
Insert Adsense code randomly into a pre-existing blog. It will takes a random paragraph (or br tag) break in your article and inserts Adsense code. It does one per story on multi-post pages (home, archive, category) and lets you pick how many to show on single post pages. It lets you pick how many total ads to show at any time as well and lets you set the formats and colors you want it to randomly select from.

AdSense Inline - Download
Insert Adsense in the middle of the post.

WhyDoWork AdSense Plugin - Download v1.2
It’s a WordPress plugin that allows you to insert Adsense ads on your blog without modifying the template. You can also set it up to show different Adsense ads for articles older than ‘x’ days. For example, you can insert 468×60 ad at the bottom of a new article, and once that article turns 7 days old it will have a more aggressive 336×280 ad blended with the text from the beginning of that article.

AdRotator - Download
It will displays any ads which is randomly between any number of advertisements, images, or other codes. This can be used to distribute your ads impressions between various networks and to provide variety to users.

AdSense Manager - Download v3.2.13
A WordPress plugin for managing Adsense ads on your site. It generates code automatically and allows positioning with widgets.

My Interesting Files problem fixed!

Posted by Dunn on April 2, 2008 – 11:43 pm -

My Interesting Files

I’m so glad that My Interesting Files problem is fixed already. Thank’s to Rahul from Devil Workshop who had been so patient helping me to fix it. He’s a very nice guy. Since my knowledge so limited, I gave him access to my cPanel, Wordpress and Blogger account so he could check for the problem. And it took only about one hour or two until he managed to fix it. We did our conversation by IM. He’s friendly, polite and very humble. It was nice chatting with him.

According to Rahul, the transfer team from my hosting company transfered content via FTP, so old content was being served from normal URLs, and Wordpress never queries for them. So he moved them into one folder under My Interesting Files directory, changed few settings at Blogger, changed slug of a post at Wordpress, and renamed a file on my server. And after that, everything is fixed!

One lesson that I learn from this. Although they labeled themself as a Transfer Team, doesn’t mean they totally understand about transfer. Especially when it’s about transferring from Blogger to Wordpress which I think it’s very common in this blogsphere. One of their answer that I think is so silly was “Please note since the posts you have imported are the old ones it is normal for it display the old contents”.

If you are planning to transfer your site, it’s advisable that you do it yourself. It gives you the opportunity to experience and enrich your knowledge. Go search for a guide. There are many websites that had posts about step by step of transferring your site. Leave a comment in their post if you have questions, I’m sure most of them will help you.

I also wish to thank Mig from Pamil Vision and Bobby from Revellian who have earnestly tried to help me with the process, making it less stressful for certain. A zillion thanks, guys.

My Interesting Files Issue

Posted by Dunn on March 27, 2008 – 8:30 pm -

Blogger vs Wordpress

My other site, My Interesting Files is having problems after transferring from Blogger custom domain to Wordpress selfhosted. All the post already imported to Wordpress, and in Blogger account already set up using FTP publishing, but still the individual post of My Interesting Files was viewed using old Blogger layout.

If you go to the homepage, it will be viewed using new Wordpress theme. But if you click the individual posts that I had imported from Blogger, it will be viewed using old Blogger layout. Not only that. All the link in the Blogger layout, point to the address that does not even exist anymore.

So to prevent this, I had changed the permalink without “.html”. So when the reader clicked the individual post, they will see the post using the new Wordpress theme. I don’t know yet if this going to be permanently or only temporary. Will post again in the future for sure. See the different :

old permalink : /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%.html. eg : http://www.myinterestingfiles.com/2008/03/balance-mobile-concept.html

new permalink : /%year%/%monthnum%/%postname%. eg : http://www.myinterestingfiles.com/2008/03/balance-mobile-concept

Does anyone know how to fix this? Even the transfer department from my hosting company who did the transfer and ended up with this problem can not help me to solve this. If any of you ever faced the same problem, please share your experience by leave a comment here or contact me. I really need help.

Update :

To avoid having same content with two different URL, I’ve decided to switch back to my old permalink structure which is using “.html” in the end of the address. If you want to see the different, just go to the homepage and click one old post. You can see the different from here.

Update :

The problem is fixed already! Click here for the detail.
