WordPress Problem : Fatal Error Memory Exhausted

Have you ever experienced such problem in WordPress when trying to do a new post or doing other task :

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 8192 bytes) in /home/xxx/wp-includes/cache.php on line 363

I faced this problem for quite some times. Had searched for the solution and none of them helped. Most of them suggests to increase the default memory limit. Had tried to do it by following this post : Fix: WordPress Memory Exhausted Error – Increase PHP Memory but still it didn’t solve the problem.

Until I read one of the comment saying :

Just remember that if the problem is a memory leak (either in PHP itself or in some library that is used by a plugin), this will merely delay the occurence.

This gave me an idea to try deactivate the plugins one by one to see if it helps solve the problem. And voila… the problem solved after deactivating the Google XML Sitemaps plugin. After a long time searched and going through some hassles, the solution was only as simple as that.

So if you face the same problem, try to deactivate the plugins first. If it doesn’t help, try to increase your memory limit by following the guide from the link above. If you still get the error after that, then I suggest you contact your hosting provider and ask for their help.

Twitter had launced their Official Tweet Button which make it easier for you to submit the article to Twitter directly from the website. It also has the option to show how many time the URL has been shared. There are three version of the button and five different settings for customization:

When you’ve done with the selections, it will generate a code below. Copy and paste the code into the HTML of your site wherever you want the button to appear.

For the WordPress users, there is a plugin for this created by Svilen Popov. It allows you to easily integrate Tweet Button in your site:

Three methods to include Twitter Button in your blog: automatic, manual or by shortcode.
Exclude Twitter Button from certain pages.
Twitter Button can be placed in different positions in the post: top, bottom or both.
Admin panel language support.
Restore option.

WordPress Automatic Upgrade

Remember the time when you felt so frustating while upgrading your WordPress? I felt that before, and I hate it. We had to go through all the hassles yet the errors. I even decided not to upgrade my WordPress at all, just left it with what it was as long as there’s no problem with my sites. But now, since I was introduced by Rahul from Devils Workshop, upgrading WordPress couldn’t be more easier. It took me only ten minutes to do the upgrade. Thank’s to WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin.

There are several steps that you have to do during the upgrade process:

Back up files. It’s recommended to back up your files and download them before moving to the next process. But you can skip this step if you don’t want to back up your files.
Database back up. The database back up will be stored in a folder called wpau-backup in the root folder of your site. It’s recommended to back up your database and download them before moving to the next process. You can skip this step too if you don’t want to back up your database.
You’ll be prompt to choose where to get the upgrade files. There are two choices, but the second one still not available yet. So just choose the first one which is ‘Choose get the latest version from WordPress.org’ and press ‘Let’s Go’.
This step is to put your site into the maintenance mode.
This step is to de-activate all the plugins.
Then the upgrading process will begin, start with upgrading all the installation files.
Next step, they will upgrade the WP database.
After finish with the upgrading process, they will put your site out of the maintenance mode and re-activate all the plugins. Some of the plugin might be failed to re-activate. So you have to re-activate them later manually.
At this step, they will offer you again to download all the files and database backups. If you haven’t download them, this is your last chance. If you have, at this step they will offer you to clean up all the upgradation files.
That’s it. Your WordPress will be upgraded already.

I had upgraded three of my sites using this plugin, and I found one error after upgrading this site. After finish with the upgrading process and re-activate the plugins, I found that my site still in the maintenance mode. I look for the solution in the site and I found it :

Only under some rare condition this will happen. To get your site back online, you need to do these steps :

Login to your site using FTP

Delete the index.php file

Rename the index.php.wpau.bak file to index.php

Performing these steps should remove the maintenance mode message.

And it worked! After following the steps above, my site back to normal again. This is awesome. Like I said, this took me only about ten minutes to upgrade my WordPress to the latest version. I suggest you use this plugin if you have limited knowledge about programing or all those kind of stuffs, like me. It really helps, and the important part is to avoid the error or mistake you might make during the manual upgrading process.

WordPress 2.6 Image Uploaded Broken

Yesterday I just upgraded to WordPress 2.6, using WordPress Automatic Upgrade Plugin, installed in my WordPress by Rahul from Devils Workshop. Thank’s bro. This plugin is really helpful. It took me only about 10 minutes to upgrade my WordPress.

Anyway, after upgraded to WordPress 2.6, I found problem while trying to insert the image to the post. Uploading the images was successful. But after went through the whole crunching routine, the thumbnail did not appear and when i inserted the image into the post, nothing showed up either.

I searched the WordPress Forum for the solution and I found it, posted by procdaddy :

“i put in the full url to the images folder and that seems to have fixed the issue!”

And it did solved the problem. I can insert the image as usual.

So if anyone had experienced the same problem like me after installing WordPress 2.6, try the above method. I hope it works with you as well.

WordPress 2.5 Image Uploading Error

Upon upgrading to WordPress 2.5, there was one error that I had to deal with. I found error everytime I wanted to upload image to the post, so in the mean time, I had to upload the image via control panel.

I searched to find the solution for this, and I found it in WordPress Forum posted by cjane :

I added this code into my .htaccess

SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off

.. it seems to make my image uploading/insert to post work now.

And yes, mine is also working now. I can upload images from WordPress as usual. Thank’s cjane!
