Set Video As Your Wallpaper

There are many ways you can do to maximize the apperance of your desktop. You can set your favorite picture as your desktop wallpaper, or you can use more than one pictures as your wallpaper using desktop wallpaper changer. But having a video as your desktop wallpaper, this is something that not everybody aware that it’s possible. Do you want to know how to do it? I found it in WinMatrix. Just do these steps as follows:
- Download, install and run VLC media player
- Go to Setting -> Preference -> Interface -> Main Interfaces, then click on wxWidgets.
- Click on Advance Options, then uncheck the Taskbar and check on Systray Icon.
- Go to Video -> Output Module -> DirectX.
- On the bottom right corner, check the Advanced Options in order to see all the settings available.
- Check the Enable Wallpaper Mode.
- Select Playlist and check the Repeat Current Item.
- Click Save button when done.
- Restart your player.
- Open and play any video that you would like to set as wallpaper.
- Right click on the video and click on Wallpaper.
If you do not configure VLC Player to repeatedly play current media in loop, you can still do so after playing the video. Simply click on View then select Playlist. Highlight the video media content that is playing and click on Repeat One or Repeat All button as shown below to loop the video for non-stop video wallpaper.
The video must be encoded in a video format supported by VLC Player such as MPEG, MP4, WMV, AVI, FLV and etc. Or else you will need to convert the video clip to the supported format.

I had no idea you could set video as your desktop background! I’m one of those people who always needs something different–I’m changing the look of my desktop and my FireFox theme every few weeks; because I work online and am always on the computer I get very bored very, very easily with the way my computer desktop looks so this is some great information, thanks so much for posting it.

You can also do this with WinAmp; it is basically the same process. The title made it seem like Windows allowed this, you have to download an external program to make this happen… Cool regardless…

great tip - didn’t think you could do it
This is a great tip. I have VLC media player on my Mac, and I have only started playing around with it. It’s great because it allows me to play WMVs, which can be difficult on a MAc. This looks interesting–i’ll have to set one of my videos up to play on my desktop. I’ve never heard of anyone doing this before–so thanks for the tip!
