Notification from Technorati

Technorati

3 days ago I received email from Technorati saying that they are discontinuing processing updates from this blog SimplyDunn due to the WordPress version that I use which is WordPress 2.3.1.

“According to our data, this blog is running a version of Wordpress that may be suffering from a security vulnerability. See http://wordpress.org/development/2008/02/wordpress-233/ The version we have on record is WordPress 2.3.1.
Blogs are being compromised via this vulnerability on widespread scale. The most common symptom of a compromised blog is to presence of links to spam web sites inserted in the blog that are obscured by style attributes that render the text invisible but are still seen by crawlers such as Technorati’s, Google’s and Yahoo’s.
The impact of these spam links that may be unwittingly placed on your blog are reduced rangkings or being flagged as spam. We’re discontinuing processing updates from blogs that exhibit symptoms of being compromised. If your blog has been upgraded already and this message no longer applies to you.”

After reading this email, my opinion is that I got was they discontinuing processing updates from this blog because this blog is using WordPress 2.3.1 which suffering from a security vulnerabilities, and or may be spam websites that the links was inserted in the blog although in reality it hasn’t done so. If it already did, I apologize for those who had received spam from SimplyDunn and please take note that it was not intentional.

The only way to avoid that and to get this blog to be updated again by Technorati, like it or not, I have to upgrade my WordPress version to 2.5. It’s not that I’m lazy to do it. I’d never done the upgrade before, and knowing that upgrading WordPress might cause some problem or errors had stopped me from doing it. But this time I was forced to do it.

So I planned to do the upgrade for this blog as soon as I can. If later you found out that this blog doesn’t run the way it use to be, maybe I’m facing some problems or errors. Please bear with me, comeback again later. I will try my best to fix it as soon as I could.

Create your own Search Engine

Posted by Dunn on April 6, 2008 – 3:37 pm -

How would you like to have a search engine with your name or your site name on it instead of Google or Yahoo? Wouldn’t it cool? Take a look at mine :

Dunn Search Engine

Do you want one? Go to FunnyLogo, enter your name that you would like to appear in the search engine, choose Logo style that you want, then click ‘Create My Search Engine’. That’s it. You will have your own search engine in seconds.

Set it as your homepage. So everytime you want to do the search, you just click your home button. You can do your search as usual but the different is this time you’re using your own search engine.

My Interesting Files problem fixed!

My Interesting Files

I’m so glad that My Interesting Files problem is fixed already. Thank’s to Rahul from Devil Workshop who had been so patient helping me to fix it. He’s a very nice guy. Since my knowledge so limited, I gave him access to my cPanel, Wordpress and Blogger account so he could check for the problem. And it took only about one hour or two until he managed to fix it. We did our conversation by IM. He’s friendly, polite and very humble. It was nice chatting with him.

According to Rahul, the transfer team from my hosting company transfered content via FTP, so old content was being served from normal URLs, and Wordpress never queries for them. So he moved them into one folder under My Interesting Files directory, changed few settings at Blogger, changed slug of a post at Wordpress, and renamed a file on my server. And after that, everything is fixed!

One lesson that I learn from this. Although they labeled themself as a Transfer Team, doesn’t mean they totally understand about transfer. Especially when it’s about transferring from Blogger to Wordpress which I think it’s very common in this blogsphere. One of their answer that I think is so silly was “Please note since the posts you have imported are the old ones it is normal for it display the old contents”.

If you are planning to transfer your site, it’s advisable that you do it yourself. It gives you the opportunity to experience and enrich your knowledge. Go search for a guide. There are many websites that had posts about step by step of transferring your site. Leave a comment in their post if you have questions, I’m sure most of them will help you.

I also wish to thank Mig from Pamil Vision and Bobby from Revellian who have earnestly tried to help me with the process, making it less stressful for certain. A zillion thanks, guys.
